ASSESSMENTS

An initial assessment is typically the first step with any Speech-Language Pathologist. An assessment is conducted to determine and identify any areas of a child’s speech and language skills that are less developed for their age and developmental level. An assessment is typically 1 hour and 15 minutes in length.

An assessment includes:

  • Parent questionnaire and collection of background information
  • Discussing parents concerns
  • Observing the child’s language, play and social skills
  • Administration of standardized tests if appropriate
  • Reviewing results with parents
  • Making recommendations

I will provide you with a brief report with a summary of the assessment results in addition to various recommendations. There is no additional charge as this will be included in the overall assessment fee.

TREATMENT/THERAPY

If therapy for a child is recommended, these sessions are typically 1 hour in length. These sessions are made up of 50 minutes of ‘face-time’ with the remaining 10 minutes left for review, homework and any questions from parents.

Sessions are generally scheduled weekly but may also be conducted twice a week or once every 2 weeks. Parents are encouraged to observe and sometimes participate in sessions – this ensures that they are learning the skills necessary to practice their child’s goals during the week.

I provide services for:

  • Receptive and expressive language delays
  • Speech and articulation difficulties
  • Motor speech disorders (Including Apraxia)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Developmental delays
